My commitment to images and words has been life-long — and I’ve pursued it as a student, teacher and professional.
In 2010 I attended Milton Glaser’s summer program, and was reminded how much I enjoy being in school. I earned my BFA at The Cooper Union studying painting, printmaking and design, and my MA in Studio Arts from New York University, where I majored in photo printmaking.
Photographs — my own and those from post cards, vintage magazines and tour books — are the basis of my prints and collages. I create “solid” collages with paper, and “light” collages from digitally composited images. My “light” collages are invented in the computer and then printed in editions. The “solid” collages are one-of-a-kind (though of course they can be scanned and printed in edition as well). I also work in oil on canvas or wood.
Since 2007 I’ve shown at the 2/20 Gallery in Chelsea, SB Design in The East Village, and at Manhattan Theatre Source’s Estrogenius exhibitions.
Currently I’m a principal of Heliotrope Books LLC and an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Center for Publishing, where I’ve taught electronic book design. I’ve worked in book and magazine publishing in New York City for 25 years, including as the former Art Director of Writers and Readers Inc. and the former Production Manager of Harper's Magazine. I’ve also consulted at Random House, Sesame Workshop, Scholastic and The Princeton Review.
I describe myself as an “all-purpose publishing professional,” since my experience in book and magazine publishing ranges from production to design, illustration and editorial. In 2006 I formed Heliotrope Books, an indie press and book packaging company in the East Village.
